TRUCKERS ASSOCIATION DEMANDS ACTION OVER KILLING OF DRIVERS IN SADC REGION

By Raphael Mulenga

The SADC Truckers Association of Zambia has appealed to governments across the region to urgently address the continued killing of truck drivers in South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo-DRC.

Association President Eugene Ndhlovu says the association is deeply concerned by the fatal shooting of a Zambian truck driver in Durban, South Africa, two days ago, describing the incident as another reminder of the dangers faced by drivers operating on regional routes.

Speaking in an interview with Phoenix News, Mr. Ndhlovu said truck drivers remain highly vulnerable because they transport high-value cargo and often work in high-risk environments without adequate security.

He has noted that the continued at

tacks on truck drivers have devastating consequences for families, as many of the victims are breadwinners who leave behind dependents after losing their lives in violent incidents.

Mr. Ndhlovu has since called on regional governments and leaders to move beyond condemning the attacks and implement concrete security measures to guarantee the safety and protection of truck drivers across the region.
