Zambia Seeks Stronger Trade and Investment Ties with the United States

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Zambia's Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Chibamba Kanyama, has called for stronger trade and investment partnerships between Zambia and the United States, saying the country is positioning itself as a strategic destination for global investors.

Speaking at the U.S.-Africa Cooperation Summit in the United States, Dr. Kanyama said Zambia's favourable investment climate, abundant natural resources and ongoing economic reforms present significant opportunities for American businesses.

He noted that Zambia's vast deposits of critical minerals, including copper, cobalt and lithium, place the country at the centre of the global energy transition and make it an attractive destination for investment in mining and value-added industries.

Dr. Kanyama encouraged American investors to establish manufacturing and mineral processing facilities in Zambia, saying local value addition would create jobs, strengthen industrialisation and enhance global supply chains.

He further stated that the Zambian Government, under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, is implementing regulatory reforms, promoting fiscal discipline and strengthening the rule of law to provide investors with a predictable, secure and transparent business environment.

The Ambassador also highlighted the U.S.-backed Lobito Corridor Project as an example of successful strategic infrastructure investment, noting that the initiative will improve regional trade by connecting Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo to international markets through Angola.

According to Dr. Kanyama, stronger economic cooperation between Zambia and the United States has the potential to unlock new investment opportunities, promote sustainable economic growth and deepen bilateral trade relations.
