LUSAKA - National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) presidential candidate Brian Mundubile has accused the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) of delaying the announcement of this year's crop marketing prices due to alleged financial constraints.
Speaking during a media briefing, Mr. Mundubile claimed that alleged corruption involving Zambia National Service (ZNS) Eagle Milling operations had weakened the FRA's ability to announce producer prices.
He further alleged that funds intended for the agency were being controlled by officials aligned with the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND).
According to Mr. Mundubile, the delay in announcing crop prices has left farmers uncertain and unable to adequately plan for the next farming season.
He said timely communication of producer prices is essential for farmers to make informed decisions regarding production and marketing.
Meanwhile, NRPUP vice-presidential candidate Makebi Zulu criticised the UPND administration, alleging that it has failed to improve the livelihoods of Zambians.
Mr. Zulu claimed that many citizens continue to experience economic hardship and that the Government has not delivered meaningful development.
The Government and the Food Reserve Agency had not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of publication.
