LUSAKA - Democratic Union presidential candidate Ackim Njobvu says his administration will review fuel prices quarterly instead of monthly if elected, arguing that the move would provide businesses with greater certainty and improve economic planning.
Speaking during the 2026 presidential debate on Diamond TV, Mr. Njobvu said frequent changes in fuel prices disrupt business operations, making it difficult for companies to forecast costs and enter into long-term contracts.
"Democratic Union will not continue with the monthly review of fuel, it disturbs planning," Mr. Njobvu said.
He said quarterly fuel price reviews would promote greater stability and allow businesses to plan their operations more effectively instead of constantly adjusting to changes in fuel costs.
"Quarterly reviews will help businesses plan," he said.
Mr. Njobvu also pledged to establish a strategic fuel reserve capable of supplying the country for between three and six months, saying this would help cushion consumers and businesses against sharp increases in fuel prices.
The Democratic Union presidential candidate said his party's broader vision is to put Zambians first by addressing the high cost of living through job creation and economic empowerment.
He identified young people and women as among those most affected by the country's economic challenges and pledged to create more opportunities for them.
"Our desire is that we empower our young people. Employment opportunities are one of the best options that we can provide to them, as well as giving them empowerment," Mr. Njobvu said.
With only weeks remaining before the August 13 General Election, presidential candidates are continuing to present their policies as voters assess the leaders they want to represent them in Government.
