LUSAKA - The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested six suspects in separate intelligence-led operations targeting drug trafficking in the Copperbelt, Muchinga and Southern provinces.
Among those arrested is a suspected cannabis supplier in Mufulira, who was allegedly found with 65 kilogrammes of cannabis concealed in a vehicle.
The DEC said other suspects were apprehended in Isoka and Kalomo districts for allegedly trafficking cannabis.
In a separate operation at the Victoria Falls Border, DEC officers intercepted a consignment of Benylin containing codeine that was allegedly concealed in a truck.
One suspect was arrested in connection with the alleged unlawful importation of the controlled medicine.
DEC Public Relations Officer Allan Tamba said all six suspects are currently in lawful custody and are expected to appear in court soon.
The Commission said the operations form part of its ongoing efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks and prevent controlled substances from entering or circulating on the Zambian market.
