LUSAKA – Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) politician Moïse Katumbi has dismissed claims circulating on social media alleging that he has endorsed a presidential candidate in Zambia's upcoming General Election.
In a statement issued on 21 July 2026, Mr. Katumbi described the reports as false and urged the public to disregard information being circulated in his name.
He said he respects the sovereignty, territorial integrity and internal affairs of neighbouring countries and would not interfere in Zambia's domestic political processes.
"I wish to distance myself from the false information circulating online claiming that I have endorsed a presidential candidate in the upcoming Zambian general elections," Mr. Katumbi said.
The Congolese politician stated that he has not endorsed any presidential candidate or political party in Zambia and has no intention of doing so.
He emphasised that Zambia's elections are a matter for the Zambian people alone.
"I have not endorsed any presidential candidate or political party in Zambia and do not intend to do so, as this is purely a domestic matter for the Zambian people to decide exclusively," he said.
Mr. Katumbi called on members of the public to ignore the misleading claims circulating online under his name.
His statement comes amid increased political activity and heightened scrutiny of information shared on social media ahead of Zambia's 13 August General Election.
