LUSAKA – Socialist Party President Dr. Fred M'membe has expressed concern over what he describes as repeated disruptions to his party's campaign programme ahead of Zambia's 13 August General Election.
Speaking in an interview, Dr. M'membe alleged that campaign activities by President Hakainde Hichilema have coincided with the Socialist Party's scheduled rallies, forcing the party to suspend or adjust some of its campaign programmes.
According to Dr. M'membe, the Socialist Party's campaign activities on the Copperbelt were cut short after President Hichilema held campaign events in the province during the same period.
He further claimed that the President's planned campaign rally in Mazabuka, Southern Province, would also affect the Socialist Party's scheduled campaign activities in the area.
Dr. M'membe said the repeated overlap of campaign schedules has made it difficult for his party to carry out its planned mobilisation activities in some parts of the country.
President Hakainde Hichilema is expected to hold a campaign rally in Mazabuka today as part of his campaign ahead of the general election.
The Presidency had not publicly responded to Dr. M'membe's allegations at the time of publication.
