Chipata Lecturer Arrested for Allegedly Defiling 15-Year-Old Niece

CHIPATA - A 55-year-old lecturer at Chipata College of Education has been arrested for allegedly defiling his 15-year-old niece in Chipata District.

Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba said the matter was reported at Chipata Central Police Station on July 27, 2026, by the victim's uncle on behalf of the family.

Police allege that the abuse occurred repeatedly between February and July 2026 at the accused's residence, where the juvenile had been staying.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Stephen Kamanga, who is the girl's paternal uncle, allegedly used threats of sending her back to her unemployed mother to coerce her into submitting to the abuse.

Police further allege that the suspect sexually abused the girl on three separate occasions and subsequently administered emergency contraceptive pills.

The matter reportedly came to light on July 26, 2026, when the survivor confided in her mother, who then took steps to seek justice.

Police have confirmed that the suspect has been arrested and is expected to appear in court soon.

The allegations remain subject to the outcome of the legal process, and the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
