THE Electoral Commission of Zambia has indefinitely suspended all campaign activities of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity in Kaputa Constituency following acts of violence that led to the death of a member of another political party.
In a press statement dated 3rd July, 2026, Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro said the suspension takes effect immediately and will remain in place pending a full review by the Commission.
“The decisive action follows the party’s involvement in acts of violence in the area, resulting in the death of a member of another political party,” Kasaro said.
The ECZ also expressed concern over another fatal incident in Chivuna Village, Magoye East Constituency of Mazabuka District, which resulted in the death of Mr. Stanley Sakala. The Commission said it is awaiting a conclusive report from the Zambia Police Service before taking action.
With the 13th August General Election approaching, the ECZ urged all political parties and independent candidates to maintain law and order and strictly adhere to the Electoral Code of Conduct.
“The Commission reiterates that it will not hesitate to enforce its statutory powers under the Electoral Process (Amendment) Act No. 12 of 2026. Any failure to adhere to the law will result in serious consequences,” the statement read.
