GOVT SAYS IT MAY LIMIT FUTURE NRC MOBILE ISSUANCE TO HOME AFFAIRS STAFF DUE TO PAYMENT DELAYS

Government says it may in future restrict the mobile countrywide issuance of National Registration Cards -NRCS- to workers from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security only, in order to avoid confusion during payment processes.
Home Affairs and Internal Security Permanent Secretary Dickson Matembo says some workers contracted in 2025 to help carry out the exercise have not yet been paid but has assured that payments are being processed in phases and all workers will eventually receive their dues.
Speaking to Phoenix News in an interview, Mr. Matambo explained that the exercise was implemented in stages, making it necessary for payments to also follow a phased approach.
He said government cannot be forced to give a specific timeframe to clear the dues because the matter is being handled administratively and the release of funds is taking place gradually.
Mr. Matembo said the ministry is currently in the final phase of the payment process and all remaining workers will be paid.
Last year, government undertook a massive countrywide mobile NRC issuance which resulted in some contracted workers not receiving their dues.
