LUSAKA MAYORAL ASPIRANT CALLS FOR ISSUE-BASED CAMPAIGNS

LUSAKA MAYORAL ASPIRANT CALLS FOR ISSUE-BASED CAMPAIGNS

Independent aspiring Lusaka mayor Simon Mulenga Mwila has urged political players to embrace issue-based campaigns, saying candidates should compete through ideas rather than acts of vandalism.

Speaking after spending the day campaigning in New Kasama, Woodlands and Nyumba Yanga, Mr. Mwila said he interacted with residents by distributing campaign flyers, putting up posters and sharing his manifesto.

He said he was encouraged by the positive reception, noting that many residents took time to listen to his vision for the capital city and ask questions about his plans.

However, Mr. Mwila expressed concern over the removal and covering of campaign posters by supporters of other candidates, describing the practice as unfortunate and unnecessary.

“We can do better than that,” he said.

Mr. Mwila stressed that every candidate should be given an equal opportunity to present their manifesto to voters, adding that the people of Lusaka were capable of evaluating different ideas before making their choice at the ballot box.

He maintained that elections should be decided by the confidence and trust of the electorate rather than by the size or visibility of campaign posters.

“It is not the biggest poster that wins an election. It is the confidence and trust of the people,” Mr. Mwila said.

He thanked residents of the three communities for their warm reception and pledged to continue engaging voters as he campaigns for the Lusaka mayoral seat.
