Vice President Nalumango Calls for Unity as Zambia Bids Farewell to Dr. Guy Scott

LUSAKA – Vice President Mutale Nalumango has called on Zambians to honour the legacy of former Vice President Dr. Guy Lindsay Scott by promoting unity, peace and selfless service to the nation.

Speaking during Dr. Scott's burial at Leopards Hill Memorial Park on Monday, Mrs. Nalumango described the late statesman as a distinguished leader whose contribution to Zambia's democratic development will remain an important part of the country's history.

She said Dr. Scott dedicated his life to public service and served Zambia with humility, commitment and distinction in various leadership positions.

Mrs. Nalumango, who attended the funeral alongside members of the Scott family, government officials and other mourners, conveyed the Government's condolences to the bereaved family and assured them of the nation's support during their time of mourning.

"Dr. Scott served Zambia with commitment, humility and distinction, and his contribution to our country's democratic journey will remain part of our shared history," she said.

The Vice President urged citizens to use Dr. Scott's passing as an opportunity to reflect on the values of national unity, peace and collective responsibility.

She said the most meaningful way to honour the late former Vice President is to continue building a peaceful, united and prosperous Zambia.

"The passing of Dr. Scott is a reminder of the importance of unity, service and our collective responsibility to build on the foundation laid by those who came before us," Mrs. Nalumango said.

She further encouraged Zambians to remain united and continue promoting peace and mutual respect in honour of Dr. Scott's memory.

"May we honour his memory by continuing to work together in peace, mutual respect and love for our country," she added.

Dr. Guy Lindsay Scott, who served as Vice President from 2011 to 2014 and later as Acting President, was laid to rest at Leopards Hill Memorial Park following a funeral attended by family members, Government officials and members of the public.
