KATETE - Police in Katete District are investigating a suspected defilement case involving a three-year-old girl who was allegedly assaulted by a 12-year-old boy in Chief Kawaza's area.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba said the incident allegedly occurred at around 14:00 hours on July 27, 2026.
Mr. Mweemba said the child's mother reported that her three-year-old daughter was allegedly defiled by a 12-year-old boy from the same area.
He said the victim sustained small cuts to her private parts.
According to preliminary investigations, the child's mother was preparing lunch while her daughter was playing with other children nearby. After noticing that the child was missing, she asked one of the children where her daughter had gone and was informed that the 12-year-old boy had taken her to a neighbouring house.
Mr. Mweemba said the mother immediately went to the house and found her daughter coming out.
Suspecting that the child had been assaulted, the mother examined her and allegedly discovered visible cuts to her private parts.
He said the mother later informed her husband, who had been at work, before the matter was reported to the police.
Mr. Mweemba said a police medical report form has since been issued, while investigations into the matter are ongoing.
