LUSAKA - Police in Lusaka have charged and arrested Gezile Smith Mwale, 23, for allegedly producing and circulating obscene material.
Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi said Mwale has been charged with the offence of production of obscene matters or things, contrary to Section 177 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Mr. Chilabi said it is alleged that between July 22 and July 27, 2026, Mwale, acting together with other individuals, participated in the production of videos depicting persons engaged in obscene acts.
He added that the suspect is also alleged to have circulated the videos on various social media platforms.
Mr. Chilabi said the matter was reported to the Zambia Police Service Anti-Cyber Crime Unit on July 27, 2026, prompting investigations conducted jointly with the Zambia Cyber Security Agency.
He said preliminary investigations led to the identification and arrest of Mwale, while efforts to trace and apprehend other suspects believed to have been involved are continuing.
Mr. Chilabi said Mwale remains in police custody and is expected to appear in court.
He reminded members of the public that the production, possession, publication and circulation of obscene material are offences under the laws of Zambia.
