LUSAKA - Zambia Sugar has reaffirmed its commitment to developing women leaders after sponsoring 13 female employees to complete the 5th Cohort of the Women in the Board Room Programme.
The six-month programme is delivered by When Females Lead in partnership with the Institute of Directors Zambia and is designed to equip women with the skills needed for strategic leadership and board governance.
According to Zambia Sugar, the sponsorship forms part of the company's ongoing commitment to building an inclusive, capable and future-ready leadership pipeline.
The participants received training in corporate governance, board dynamics, risk management, strategy, finance, environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles, and effective leadership.
Speaking during the graduation ceremony, Zambia Sugar Human Resources Director Sharon Lima, accompanied by Safety Director Priscilla Msiska, encouraged the graduates to remain authentic as they advance in their leadership careers.
Ms. Lima expressed confidence that the graduates would return to their respective departments with stronger governance expertise, broader strategic perspectives and renewed commitment to their work.
She also encouraged them to mentor and coach colleagues in First Line Management by sharing the knowledge and experience gained through the programme.
Ms. Lima commended the programme organisers for creating a platform that empowers women to take up strategic leadership roles and reiterated Zambia Sugar's commitment to investing in diverse leadership talent.
The graduates are Carole Pendwe, Nyondwa Chimai, Bwalya Sampa, Suwilanji Chimuka, Namaya Muyenga, Mable Kapenda, Catherine Simukonda, Zilase Banda, Kabungo Chihili, Sibongile Hamusonde, Phyllis Mumba, Margaret Aliba, and Bernice Banda.
