President Hichilema Accords Official Funeral to Dr. Namani Monze


 LUSAKA - President Hakainde Hichilema has accorded an official funeral to Southern Province Permanent Secretary Dr. Namani Monze, who died on July 28, 2026, at Choma General Hospital following an illness.

President Hichilema has also declared Tuesday, August 4, 2026, a day of national mourning in honour of Dr. Monze's contribution to public service and national development.

Confirming the development in a statement to ZNBC News, Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa said Dr. Monze made significant contributions to the development of ophthalmology in Zambia's health sector.

Mr. Kangwa also commended Dr. Monze's leadership in supporting the implementation of Government programmes in Southern Province.

Dr. Monze will be buried on August 4, 2026, at his farm in Bwacha Ward, off the Great North Road in Choma District.

The national mourning will be observed from 06:00 hours to 18:00 hours on Tuesday, during which all national flags will be flown at half-mast.

The Government has continued to honour Dr. Monze's public service record and contribution to the health sector following his passing.
