NAMWALA - The media team of Hon. Silent M. Hapompwe has alleged that members of his campaign team were attacked by unidentified individuals while returning from Namusonde Ward in Namwala District, Southern Province.
According to a statement issued by the campaign team, the incident happened at around 16:00 hours on Thursday, July 30, 2026, in the Muma area near Kabulamwanda Bridge, in Kabulamwanda Ward of Namwala East Constituency.
The team alleged that individuals armed with machetes, guns and knives pursued three campaign vehicles before two of the vehicles overtook them, applied emergency brakes and launched an attack.
According to the statement, several campaign team members were injured, while the vehicles were damaged and their tyres deflated.
The campaign team further alleged that the attackers were travelling in three vehicles belonging to a government institution.
The statement said one of the suspected vehicles was abandoned at the scene after suffering a puncture and becoming unable to continue.
The campaign team also claimed that the vehicles had their number plates removed, although the name of the institution and a registration number were reportedly visible on the side mirror of one of the vehicles.
The team said it had previously reported concerns about vehicles allegedly operating with concealed number plates and tinted windows in the area, claiming that no action had been taken despite reports to the police and media.
According to the statement, approximately 12 police officers from Namwala arrived at the scene about three hours after the incident and recorded initial statements.
The team further claimed that police later took possession of the abandoned vehicle, while the other damaged campaign vehicles remained at the scene.
The campaign team has called for investigations into the incident and said further details will be provided as they become available.
The allegations contained in the statement have not been independently verified, and the identities of the alleged attackers and the government institution involved have not been officially established.
