WE WILL BURY LUNGU AFTER WINNING THE ELECTIONS - MUNDUBILE

THE burial of former president Edgar Lungu will not happen until Brian Mundubile forms government, the NRPUP presidential candidate has told voters.

Lungu, who led Zambia for seven years died in a South African clinic on June 5, 2025 but remained unburied for over a year due to a protracted legal battle between the family and the government over where Lungu should be laid to rest.

Last week, South Africa's Supreme Court of Appeal overturned an earlier ruling that ordered the repatriation of Lungu's remains.

The judgment ruled in favor of Lungu's family, granting it the legal right to determine his burial location, which it maintained should be in South Africa.

Since the court ruling, there has been no indication as to when Lungu would be buried until Mundubile took the campaign podium yesterday.

Addressing a rally in Chinsali, Mundubile said he and his running mate Makebi Zulu had agreed to only bury the former if the pair wins the August 13 election.

He said it was now up to the crowd to make it happen by voting for him.

"So, my mothers and fathers, what you need to know is that our father Edgar Lungu had not yet been buried. That's why Makebi Zulu and I, together with other leaders have agreed that if you vote for us in 2026 and we win, we will respect our father, Lungu by burying him in a dignified way. It is now up to you to make it happen," he told the crowd.
