LUSAKA - The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has dismissed allegations that pre-marked presidential and parliamentary ballot papers for the August 13, 2026 General Election are being transported through South Africa.
The allegations are contained in a letter dated August 11, 2026, from the Tonse Alliance.
ECZ Chief Electoral Officer Brown Kasaro has assured the public, political parties and other stakeholders that the Commission is not expecting any delivery of ballot papers from South Africa or Dubai.
Mr Kasaro said all ballot papers for the August 13 General Election have been received, verified and distributed to their respective polling stations across the country in the presence of political party monitors.
He described claims that pre-marked ballot papers originated from Dubai and were tampered with on South African soil as entirely false and baseless.
Mr Kasaro said the allegations were a calculated attempt to cause unnecessary panic, strain regional relations and undermine confidence in the integrity of the elections.
He said the Commission remains committed to conducting a transparent and credible election.
Mr Kasaro has urged all political players, particularly the Tonse Alliance, to act responsibly and refrain from spreading unverified rumours that could heighten public anxiety ahead of the polls.
He has also advised members of the public to disregard the reports and turn out in large numbers on Thursday, August 13, 2026, to peacefully exercise their right to vote.
