LUSAKA - The Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) says it achieved a 99 percent loan repayment rate during the first quarter of 2026, reflecting improved repayment compliance among beneficiaries of its empowerment programmes.
Speaking in an interview with Phoenix Business News, CEEC Public Relations and Communications Manager Michelo Mukata attributed the improvement to measures introduced by the Commission to strengthen accountability and ensure the effective utilisation of loan funds.
Mr. Mukata said one of the key interventions has been the direct payment of suppliers of goods and services, a move aimed at verifying the authenticity of transactions and reducing the risk of beneficiaries misusing loan funds.
He added that the Commission has also invested in skills development programmes for beneficiaries while deploying dedicated officers in various districts to monitor funded projects and follow up on loan repayments.
According to Mr. Mukata, these initiatives have contributed significantly to the improved repayment performance and demonstrate that beneficiaries are taking their financial obligations seriously.
He reaffirmed the Commission's commitment to promoting economic empowerment by supporting sustainable businesses while encouraging a culture of financial discipline, saving and timely loan repayment.
