KANCHIBIYA - Chief Luchembe of the Bemba people in Kanchibiya District, Muchinga Province, has expressed concern over reports that some individuals are allegedly buying voters' cards and National Registration Cards (NRCs) from residents in his chiefdom.
According to the traditional leader, he has received information that unscrupulous individuals are moving around the area offering money in exchange for voters' cards and NRCs.
Chief Luchembe warned his subjects not to fall victim to the scheme, stressing that both documents are personal and should never be sold or surrendered to anyone.
He urged residents to immediately report anyone found buying voters' cards or NRCs to the police or traditional leaders.
The chief said the practice undermines the democratic process by denying registered voters their constitutional right to freely choose leaders of their choice during elections.
