LUSAKA - The family of businessman Harry Findlay says he is currently in police custody following his detention yesterday, adding that he has not been formally charged with any offence.
In a statement, the family said it respects the rule of law and has confidence in the legal process.
However, the family expressed concern over Mr. Findlay's health, stating that authorities have been informed of his serious medical condition through medical reports and repeated requests for the release of his passport to allow him to travel abroad for urgent specialised medical treatment.
The family appealed to the authorities to give urgent and compassionate consideration to his medical needs in accordance with the Constitution and the law.
It further emphasized that Mr. Findlay is entitled to the presumption of innocence and called for his rights to be protected throughout the legal process.
The family also urged the public and the media to refrain from speculation and allow the matter to proceed through the legal process while respecting the family's privacy during what it described as a difficult time.
Meanwhile, the Zambia Police Service had not confirmed the alleged detention by the time of publication.
