LUSAKA - The Human Rights Commission says arrests and detentions recorded during the electoral process must not be carried out in a manner that disadvantages political participants, voters or the overall electoral system.
Speaking when she featured on the Red Hot Breakfast Show, Commission Chairperson Dr. Pamela Sambo said there was a need to ensure that due process was followed and suspects were not detained beyond the legally prescribed period.
Dr. Sambo also appealed to the general public to be tolerant and refrain from violence, intimidation and threats as the country heads to the polls on Thursday.
She said violence and intimidation during an election period could discourage participation and prevent citizens from exercising their civil rights to vote and participate in national affairs.
