Mundubile to Challenge August 13 Presidential Election Results

LUSAKA - National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) presidential candidate Brian Mundubile says he will challenge the results of the August 13 Presidential Election through constitutional and judicial processes.

In a statement, Mr. Mundubile said the decision follows what he described as serious irregularities, inconsistencies and circumstances surrounding the conduct, counting, transmission and declaration of the election results.

He said the decision was not motivated by bitterness or an attempt to reject the verdict of the Zambian people, but by what he described as a responsibility to protect the integrity of Zambia's democracy and ensure that every legitimate vote is respected.

Mr. Mundubile said his campaign had documented issues which, in its view, raised fundamental questions about whether the constitutional requirements for a free, fair, transparent and credible election were met.

He said the available evidence would be presented before the appropriate judicial forum, allowing the courts to independently determine the truth.

Mr. Mundubile said the petition would seek answers on whether all votes were lawfully cast, counted and accurately recorded, and whether polling station results were properly reconciled with constituency, provincial and national totals.

The NRPUP presidential candidate said the legal challenge would therefore focus on establishing the integrity and accuracy of the electoral process through the constitutional and judicial mechanisms available under Zambian law.
