NYIMBA - A 32-year-old woman from Nyimba District has identified her stepfather as the person who allegedly raped her after she suffered an epileptic seizure, resulting in her pregnancy.
The suspect, identified as Brusho Lungu, is currently on the run, prompting police to launch a manhunt for him.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba said the matter was reported to Nyimba Police Station on Sunday at around 14:30 hours by Rosemary Lungu of Eleseba Village under Chief Ndake.
Mweemba said the alleged rape is believed to have occurred on an unknown date in June 2026.
Police said Rosemary, who is an epilepsy patient, suffered a seizure outside her house and later regained consciousness inside her stepfather's sitting room.
After recovering, she discovered semen on her private parts and suspected that she had been sexually assaulted.
Police said Rosemary later confronted her stepfather over the incident, but he remained silent.
She then informed her mother, who allegedly advised her not to disclose the matter to anyone.
According to police, about two months later, Rosemary discovered that she had missed her menstrual cycle and suspected she was pregnant.
She again confronted her stepfather, telling him that she believed he had taken advantage of her while she was unconscious, but he did not respond.
Police said Rosemary later informed her mother about the pregnancy, after which she was advised to report the matter wherever she wished.
"Police medical report form was issued and no arrest has been made," Mweemba stated.
The suspect remains at large as investigations into the matter continue.
