COPPERBELT - The Lamba-Lima Royal Council of Chiefs has commended President Hakainde Hichilema and the New Dawn Government for what it described as significant development and positive transformation across the Copperbelt Province and Zambia.
In a statement issued by the traditional leaders, the Royal Council expressed appreciation for the peace, unity and stability the country continues to enjoy, while recognising various government programmes which they said have improved the lives of citizens.
Among the key achievements highlighted by the chiefs was the introduction of free education, which they said has enabled thousands of children to access learning opportunities and allowed pupils who had dropped out of school to return regardless of their families' financial circumstances.
The traditional leaders also cited investments in road rehabilitation and construction across the Copperbelt, the reopening and revitalisation of mines, and the creation of employment opportunities in mining communities.
The chiefs further praised the increase of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) from K1.6 million to K40 million per constituency, saying it has empowered communities to undertake meaningful development projects.
Other programmes highlighted include the expansion of constituencies through delimitation, construction and expansion of health facilities including the Cancer Diseases Hospital, construction of chiefs' palaces, timely delivery of farming inputs, increased Social Cash Transfer support and the implementation of the Cash for Work Programme.
The Royal Council also commended the expansion of the School Feeding Programme, restoration and continued payment of university student meal allowances, as well as support towards youth empowerment, women empowerment, local enterprise development and community infrastructure.
The chiefs said the programmes have helped reduce financial hardships, restore hope and improve the welfare of many citizens.
They also praised the government for promoting peace, strengthening democratic governance, upholding the rule of law and reducing political violence and caderism.
The Lamba-Lima Royal Council reaffirmed its commitment to working with government in promoting development, preserving cultural heritage and improving the welfare of communities.
The traditional leaders pledged continued support and cooperation with the New Dawn Government under President Hichilema and called on Copperbelt residents to support and vote for the President in order for current development programmes and policies to continue.
The statement was issued by Chief Machiya, Chairperson of the Lamba-Lima Royal Council of Chiefs, Copperbelt Province.
