NYIMBA - Police in Nyimba District have arrested two women accused of insulting President-elect Hakainde Hichilema on social media following the August 13 General Election.
The suspects have been identified as 29-year-old Rosemary Tembo and 32-year-old Afelida Tembo, both of Masangano Village in Chief Ndake's area.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba said a third suspect, identified only as Aselida, remains at large.
According to police, a viral video allegedly shows the three women insulting Mr. Hichilema and his supporters following the general elections.
Mr. Mweemba said the two detained suspects told police during interviews that they committed the alleged offence while under the influence of alcohol.
He warned that individuals who habitually insult others would face the law if found guilty.
The two women are expected to be transferred to Chipata Central Police Station for case compilation and are expected to appear in court on charges of hate speech and insults.
Police have continued investigations as efforts to apprehend the third suspect remain underway.
