LUSAKA – The Zambia Police Service has confirmed the sudden death of Police Constable Mumbuna Namakando, who collapsed while on duty in Lusaka.
Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said Constable Namakando, who was attached to Kabwata Police Station, collapsed near Lewanika Mall along Mosi-O-Tunya Road at around 22:00 hours on Friday, July 31, 2026, in circumstances that are yet to be established.
He was rushed to Chilenje Level One Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Mr. Chilabi said the body has since been taken to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
Constable Namakando was also an accomplished athlete who represented the Zambia Police Service in various sporting competitions.
The Zambia Police Service has conveyed its condolences to the late officer's family, friends and colleagues, adding that further information will be provided as investigations continue.
