LUSAKA - The Resolute Party has expelled Dr. Martin Phiri and terminated his membership with immediate effect after accusing him of endorsing President Hakainde Hichilema, a move the party says contradicts its official political position.
According to an expulsion letter dated August 2, 2026, signed by Alex Katepu, the party's Interim President and Secretary General, Dr. Phiri's recent conduct was found to be inconsistent with the party's principles of loyalty, integrity and collective responsibility.
The party stated that, as a constituent member of the PF Pamodzi Alliance, it officially supports the presidential ticket of Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu under the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP).
It alleged that Dr. Phiri's actions advanced the interests of President Hichilema and the UPND, which the party said amounted to a disregard of the Resolute Party's official position and alliance commitments.
The letter further stated that the party had lost confidence in Dr. Phiri and concluded that his conduct had irreparably undermined internal unity and discipline.
As part of the decision, Dr. Phiri has been directed to cease representing himself as a member, official, spokesperson or representative of the Resolute Party and to surrender any party property, documents or regalia in his possession.
The Resolute Party reaffirmed its commitment to the PF Pamodzi Alliance and reiterated its support for the alliance's presidential ticket ahead of the August 13, 2026 General Election.
