CHISAMBA - Unknown assailants have killed Chaminuka Resort Chief Executive Officer Stelios Sardinis after breaking into his residence at Chaminuka Lodge in Chisamba District in the early hours of today.
The 64-year-old was attacked between 01:00 and 01:15 hours after the suspects allegedly forced their way into his residence through the main glass door.
According to police, the attackers, who were armed with offensive weapons whose type has not yet been established, proceeded to the bedroom where they assaulted Mr. Sardinis before stealing a safe containing documents and valuables.
The suspects also made away with an undisclosed amount of money.
Mr. Sardinis sustained injuries during the attack and was rushed to CFB Medical Centre in Lusaka by Chaminuka Resort workers.
However, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at the medical facility.
Police have since opened investigations into the incident as a case of murder and aggravated robbery. The value of the property stolen during the raid has not yet been established.
Police officers visited the scene and have begun processing evidence as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify the suspects.
Meanwhile, police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi said a security guard who was on duty at the lodge at the time of the incident has been detained to assist with investigations.
“The Zambia Police Service appeals to anyone with information that may assist in the investigations to report to the Police through the toll-free lines 9010 or 9011,” Mr. Chilabi said.
