LUSAKA - Power utility ZESCO has clarified that the power interruptions being experienced in some areas are due to technical faults and not load-shedding.
Speaking on the Phoenix Breakfast Show, ZESCO Stakeholder Relations Manager Rose Sibisi said the country's electricity supply situation is currently stable and there are no plans to reintroduce load-shedding for the rest of the year and into next year.
Ms. Sibisi explained that available power supply is adequate to meet current system demand, unlike during the 2024 to 2025 drought when 86 percent of the country's electricity generation came from hydro power.
She said ZESCO continues to supply customers across the country while the network undergoes planned maintenance, upgrades and expansion works.
Ms. Sibisi added that electricity demand continues to grow as more houses are built and businesses expand, but assured the public that ZESCO is implementing new projects to keep pace with the increasing demand.
She further explained that technical faults are often not reported promptly by customers, which can delay ZESCO's response and restoration of power.
Ms. Sibisi has since urged members of the public to report power faults promptly so that technicians can be deployed to affected areas.
