LUSAKA - The Zambia Police Service says Tuesday's Presidential Inauguration Ceremony at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka was conducted peacefully, with no major security incidents recorded.
Police Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi says no crime-related incidents were recorded at the venue, while road traffic operations also proceeded successfully without any accidents.
Mr Chilabi says the smooth operations were largely due to security and traffic management plans put in place, as well as effective coordination among the Defence and Security Wings.
He says traffic along Great North Road and Lumumba Road leading to the venue returned to normal at around 18:00 hours.
However, Mr Chilabi says police recorded one incident involving a motorist who allegedly disobeyed a lawful instruction to stop by a traffic officer before speeding away.
He says the incident happened at the T-junction of Chilimbulu and Mosi-oa-Tunya Roads during the movement of the Presidential motorcade.
Mr Chilabi says police have since instituted investigations into the matter.
The Zambia Police Service has thanked members of the public and motorists for their cooperation and patience during the temporary road closures and traffic diversions implemented for the inauguration.
