LUSAKA - House of Chiefs Chairperson Chief Bunda Bunda says the inauguration of President Hakainde Hichilema for his second term in office is a sign of Zambia's democratic maturity.
Chief Bunda Bunda said now that the elections are over, it is important for citizens to forge ahead in unity and love, noting that it is now time to focus on development.
The Chief urged citizens to continue embracing peace and unity irrespective of their political affiliation.
In an interview with ZNBC News, Chief Bunda Bunda further said the country could only develop if citizens worked together as a united team.
Meanwhile, Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia Executive Director Allan Kasungami said the inauguration was a milestone for the country, stating that the church would continue to play a key role in preaching peace and unity.
And SDA Southern Zambia Union Conference President Vanny Munyumbwe also urged all citizens to work together.
Meanwhile, UPND Alliance Chairperson Charles Milupi said the alliance partners were proud to be associated with the UPND, noting that this was the second time the alliance had delivered victory at Presidential and Vice President level.
Mr Milupi further noted that the last five years were about setting a foundation that would now enable the country to thrive over the next five years.
Speaking during the ceremony, UPND Deputy Spokesperson Elvis Nkandu said the return of President Hichilema and Vice President Mutale Nalumango was a clear sign that the UPND had won the confidence of many citizens.
Meanwhile, Special Assistant to the President for Political Affairs Levy Ngoma said the victory and subsequent inauguration of President Hichilema was a clear testament that the Zambian people wanted to continue on a positive development trajectory.
