LUSAKA - Newly elected Zambezi East Independent Member of Parliament Jonathan Mwendelema says the time for politics is over and it is now time to work with President Hakainde Hichilema to deliver development for the people.
Mr Mwendelema said the best way to serve the people who elected him was to work with the Government of the day and support policies aimed at improving their lives.
Speaking in an interview with Kalemba during the inauguration ceremony of President Hakainde Hichilema at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Mwendelema said he wanted to work with the Government to foster development in Zambezi East Constituency.
He said the constituency needed improved access to water, food and good roads.
"No politics now, time for politics is over. It's time to work with President Hakainde Hichilema to deliver service to the people. We already have a President, now it is time to work," Mr Mwendelema said.
The independent MP said he was inspired by President Hichilema's policies and commitments aimed at improving the lives of Zambians.
Mr Mwendelema further congratulated President Hichilema on his inauguration and reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with him.
He thanked the people of Zambezi East Constituency for their continued trust and support, assuring them that their aspirations remained at the centre of his leadership.
"Let me take this opportunity to assure President Hakainde Hichilema that we, the people of Zambezi East Constituency, will endeavour to support his Government and work with him for the betterment of the constituency. We are inspired by his good policies and commitments to service," Mr Mwendelema said.
"For me and the people of Zambezi East Constituency, it is very important that we work with the Government of the day for us to have the much-needed development in our constituency."
Mr Mwendelema defeated immediate past Zambezi East Member of Parliament Brian Kambita of the UPND.
