LIMA - Lima Constituency Member of Parliament Kelvin Kaunda has pledged to make the delivery of basic services and sustainable development his primary focus as he takes up his parliamentary responsibilities.
Mr Kaunda said Lima, being a newly created constituency, requires significant investment in critical infrastructure, including healthcare, education, roads, water, drainage and sanitation.
He said his immediate priority would be to push for the establishment of at least a First Level Hospital to bring healthcare services closer to residents.
"We need at least a First Level Hospital to bring essential healthcare services closer to our people," Mr Kaunda said.
He said schools in the constituency also required renovation, modern learning materials and improved facilities to provide children with quality education.
Mr Kaunda further said the constituency needed improved markets and deliberate interventions targeting youth and women's empowerment.
He said he would not allow his parliamentary office to become an end in itself, insisting that his election was a mandate to deliver for the people.
"Our commitment is to the work we were resoundingly elected to do. Anything else is secondary," he said.
Mr Kaunda said he intended to use his position to listen to residents and advocate for their needs.
"I go to Parliament not simply to occupy a seat, but to serve, listen, advocate and work tirelessly for the people of Lima," he said.
"The mandate belongs to the people," Mr Kaunda said.
