LUSAKA - The Lusaka City Council (LCC) has called on candidates who participated in last month's general election to work together and remove campaign materials placed across the capital.
LCC Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba said campaign materials are required to be removed within 14 days of the declaration of election results.
"All political parties who won and those who lost must come together and remove the campaign materials in the city," she said.
Ms Mwamba said the council did not have sufficient manpower to remove all the materials on its own and called on members of the public and political players to assist in the exercise.
She said Lusaka remained cluttered with campaign materials, estimating that there were more than half a million such materials across the city.
However, Ms Mwamba said the LCC would be guided by the Electoral Commission of Zambia regarding campaign materials belonging to candidates who had petitioned the August 13 general election results.
She added that candidates involved in election petitions would also be guided by the ECZ on how they should conduct their campaigns and display campaign materials.
Ms Mwamba said the LCC remained committed to keeping the city clean and urged members of the public to demonstrate the same commitment.
