LUSAKA - Economic Front Party (EFP) President Wynter Kabimba has warned that the conduct of some police officers and public officials has the potential to make a sitting Head of State unpopular by creating the perception that State institutions are being used for political purposes.
Speaking on Tuesday's edition of the Let the People Talk programme on Phoenix FM, Mr. Kabimba said some officials appear to make decisions they believe will please the President, but in doing so, they risk damaging public confidence in the administration.
He argued that rather than strengthening the presidency, such actions undermine the credibility and independence of key public institutions, including the Zambia Police Service.
Mr. Kabimba further stated that the President is, in many cases, unaware of the actions taken by some public officials, who mistakenly believe they are acting in his best interests while inadvertently eroding public trust.
He emphasized that Zambia's democratic institutions can only earn and maintain public confidence if they are allowed to operate independently and without political interference.
