LUSAKA - Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) vice-president Mike Mushanga has urged candidates aggrieved by election results to ensure they have sufficient evidence before filing election petitions in court.
Mr. Mushanga said individuals with genuine grievances are entitled to exercise their legal rights but cautioned against pursuing weak cases that could unnecessarily burden the Judiciary.
Speaking in an interview, he said candidates should carefully assess the strength of their cases and seek proper legal advice before commencing legal proceedings.
Mr. Mushanga, however, said the courts should be allowed to determine the nature and extent of alleged electoral irregularities reported during the polls.
“Petitioners should clearly establish the grounds of their complaints and ensure that their claims are supported by credible evidence before approaching the courts,” Mr. Mushanga said.
