LUSAKA - Economic Front President and UPND Alliance member Wynter Kabimba has dismissed suggestions that Zambia's 2026 General Election will result in a presidential run-off, arguing that the opposition Tonse Alliance lacks the structures and capacity to force a second round of voting.
Speaking to Phoenix News, Mr. Kabimba said the Tonse Alliance has fielded only 154 parliamentary candidates out of 226 constituencies, which he believes puts the opposition at a significant disadvantage.
He further noted that the alliance has also failed to contest nearly half of the available local government positions, limiting its nationwide electoral reach.
Mr. Kabimba said the UPND has already secured seven parliamentary seats and six council chairperson positions unopposed, giving the ruling party what he described as a strong head start ahead of the August 13 General Election.
He maintained that the opposition lacks the organisational structures and logistical efficiency required to mount a successful challenge against the UPND.
According to Mr. Kabimba, the ruling party's extensive presence across constituencies positions it strongly ahead of the polls.
