LUSAKA - Government has declared Tuesday, September 1, 2026, a public holiday to allow for the swearing-in ceremony of the President-elect and Vice President-elect.
According to a statement issued by Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick K. Kangwa, the ceremony will take place at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka on Tuesday.
The declaration follows an earlier announcement made on August 25, 2026, regarding arrangements for the inauguration ceremony.
President Hakainde Hichilema has since declared the day of the ceremony a public holiday.
Meanwhile, invited guests have been encouraged to consider carpooling due to limited parking space at the National Heroes Stadium in order to minimise inconvenience.
